Education ministry to launch school management system next month

The Education ministry is set to launch a national system to monitor schools resources and enrolled students across the country.

Dubbed NEMIS, an acroynm for National Education Management System, the program is set to be launched next month, September 28, and is meant to reduce bureaucratic procedures in schools.

Speaking on Friday, August 18 at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced the planned launched, adding that students’ will be entered into the system from September 5 in a bid to promote accountability.

Dr Matiang’i warned school heads to they adopt the system and get an access code or risk closure.

The Education boss said the system will help monitor all financial details in all schools making sure all funds are accounted for and with all students being issued with a universal personal Identity number that they will use all through their education life.

The ministry requires all schools, private and public, to have codes from the system for their identification failure to which the they will be closed down and students redistributed in coded schools.

What to know about National Management Information System (NEMIS)

It is a trusted master data for education

It is a system that will aid in monitoring and putting details of all learners and staff performance

The only source of information to the NEMIS system will be the principal and head teachers for credibility

Already in use in 30 schools across the country

The challenges being facing the system being insufficient and inadequate ICT infrastructure
