ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been declared the Nairobi senator-elect.

Sifuna, according to the results released Sunday morning, garnered 716,651 votes, beating his main competitor, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)

Ms. Wanjiru got 524,091 votes.

Speaking after being awarded his certificate, Sifuna thanked his supporters, family and members of his team, and promised to serve the people of Nairobi without fail.

“I want to thank all of you, the people of Nairobi, for honouring me with this position and I want to assure you that you know my capacity, my work and my ability. I will serve you diligently every day that I wake up… sitawaangusha,” he said.

He similarly expressed goodwill to his opponents, saying elections are now over and that they are welcome to collaborate with him in serving city residents.

“I consider them worthy opponents and I welcome them to work with us in order to work for the people of Nairobi,” added Sifuna.
