Eldoret court detains three robbery with violence suspects

Eldoret Chief Magistrate Peter Ndwiga ordered that Geoffrey Kakwila, Emmanuel Odhiambo, and Lewis Wafula be detained in cells at Ainabtich Police Station pending the completion of inquiries.

In his ruling, the magistrate said the prosecution had presented compelling grounds to justify continued detention to allow investigators to finalise the probe.

State counsel Eunice Ronoh told the court there were concerns the suspects could interfere with witnesses expected to testify during the proceedings if released at this stage.

The court also heard that one of the victims of the violent robbery remains in critical condition at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and has yet to be issued with a P3 form, a key medical document required in criminal cases.

Prosecutors further argued that the suspects have no fixed place of residence, raising fears that they may abscond if granted bail.

The three were arrested by members of the public on February 10, 2026, after they were allegedly cornered while carrying out a robbery in the Kimumu area along the Eldoret–Iten highway.

Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations linked the suspects to a series of violent robbery incidents reported by several victims in the area.

The case will be mentioned again on February 18, 2026, when the court is expected to give further directions.
