Two people have been shot dead by suspected bandits within Tot area in Marakwet East Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County while collecting firewood.

The pair is said to have been fetching firewood in the afternoon when bandits ambushed them and killed them on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the officer in charge of peace in Elgeyo Marakwet Lawrence Mutwol said the bandits raided the area from the nearby Tiaty Constituency in Baringo County.

While condemning the attack, he said that despite the laid out peace initiatives in the banditry-prone area, some few gangs opposed to peace have been regrouping to terrorise residents.

Mutwol now wants the government to intervene to restore security in the area that is slowly recovering from similar attacks.

According to Mutwol, the incident comes hours after yet another attack in Endo on Thursday where bandits stole an unknown number of cattle and fled towards Tiaty.

He says that the cattle are yet to be recovered.
