Eliud Wabukala's 6-year term as EACC chair comes to an end

The six-year tenure of Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chairperson Archbishop (Emeritus) Dr. Eliud Wabukala came to an end on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, in a statement issued on Tuesday, celebrated the outgoing chair commending him for providing "focused and steady leadership" since assuming office back in 2017.

“The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) bids farewell to the Chairperson, Archbishop (Emeritus) Dr Eliud Wabukala, EBS, whose term of office has come to an end today, Tuesday, 17th January 2023,” read the statement.

“Archbishop Wabukala was appointed as the Commission Chairperson vide Gazette Notice No. 398 of 18th January 2017 pursuant to the provisions of Article 250 (2) (c) of the Constitution of Kenya as read with Sections 7 and 10(5) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2011.”

He added: “On behalf of the Commissioners, Executive Management and Staff of EACC, I thank the outgoing Chairperson for the focused and steady leadership that he has provided to the Commission in the last six (6) years.

The commission also hailed Wabukala’s over half a decade of leadership as instrumental in shaping the commission's battle to end corruption in the country.

"During his tenure, he was instrumental in shaping the strategic and policy direction of the Commission which has resulted in significant milestones in the fight against corruption and promotion of ethics in the country,” Twalib wrote.

“EACC appreciates that Archbishop Wabukala leaves a stable, professional and reliable Anti-Corruption Agency that is committed to the effective discharge of its mandate to the people of Kenya.”

The retired Anglican Church of Kenya Archbishop took over from Philip Kinisu in 2017 after the latter stepped down following overwhelming allegations of involvement in corruption.
