Embu County announces discovery of copper minerals

Embu Governor Martin Wambora has announced discovery of copper minerals in two sites in the larger Mbeere region.

Wambora said that the minerals have been discovered in Evurore ward, Mbeere North, and another site in Mbeere South.

Speaking after a round table meeting with the business community and local investors at Kenya School of Government in Embu, Wambora said that the county government had already involved geologists from the Ministry of Mining to establish the extent of the copper in the two sites before the county government can embark on exploration.

News of the discovery has been welcomed by local investors led Chamber of Commerce Chairman Samuel Kanyi who said that the government should move with speed to ensure the exploration process begins immediately.

“The county will hold an international investors conference March 23 which will go a long way in improving the economy of Embu County and improving the living standards of its residents,” said the governor.

He also stated that the investors conference would concentrate on value addition, energy, investment, ICT, Tourism and financial services, in which he revealed his plans to start a micro-finance bank in the county.

Wambora further added that the government had started the process of identifying all government pieces of land and ensuring they acquire title deeds as they were planning to put up houses in all major Embu county towns which will be occupied by government officers.
