Embu Governor Wambora eyes senatorial seat
Outgoing Embu
Governor Martin Wambora on Wednesday declared interest to contest for the
county’s senatorial seat at the August General Elections.
Wambora, who is
serving his final term in office, intends to vie for the position under an
Umoja na Maendeleo party ticket.
“I have meet with
various Embu County grassroots leaders and I have heard from the electorate and
and they have assured me of support in my senatorial bid as well growing Umoja
na maendeleo party’s reach," Wambora said in a statement at the Embu
Hotel.
Wambora, who also
serves as the Chairman of the Council of Governors, likewise affirmed that he
was the perfect candidate to replace incumbent senator Norman Nyaga, citing
that he will focus on augmenting devolution in the county.
At the same time,
the governor also took a swipe at those who have been criticizing his
administration adding that during his tenure he was able to transform Embu
level V Hospital into a state-of-the-art medical facility that can even offer
head surgery services.
Wambora, who hails
from Runyenjes, was elected as Governor under the premise of uniting
communities in the cosmopolitan county.
He similarly added
that he would support any gubernatorial candidate from Manyatta constituency at
the polls, as he had promised when he was elected into office for the second
time.
Those seeking to
replace Wambora as governor include Manyatta MP John Muchiri his nominated
counterpart, Cecily Mbarire and former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti.
