Encourage domestic tourism-Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has challenged African countries to encourage domestic tourism as a measure to promote the sector.

Ruto said tourists and visitors should not be viewed as people from outside the continent.

Speaking when he attended the Mombasa cultural festival at Mama-Ngina drive on Friday, the deputy president said African countries were essential and fast growing elements in the tourism equation.

“Gone are the days when tourism was the exclusive domain of the wealthy western visitor,” said Ruto.

Meanwhile, Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa urged leaders and residents to cooperate with police to ensure security is upheld to boost the tourism sector.
