Energy Principal Secretary Alex Wachira has outlined Kenya’s advancements in clean energy, pointing out that over 90% of its electricity comes from renewable sources, making Kenya one of Africa's leaders in the field.

At the 11th Powering Africa Summit in Washington, United States of America, Wachira also pointed out Kenya’s digital innovations and how technology was changing Africa's energy sector.

He outlined smart grid technologies and online systems that have improved the efficiency of energy distribution. Mobile money platforms like M-Pesa, he said, were boosting revenue collection and lowering investment risk.

The unbundling of the power industry to promote private sector engagement and competitiveness, as well as Kenya's updated energy strategy, were among the policy measures that participants considered in an effort to improve the investment climate.

In order to draw investment and support large-scale energy projects, the Kenyan delegation emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships and cutting-edge financing approaches like climate finance and sustainability-linked bonds.

The summit, which focuses on building infrastructure, opening vital mineral value chains, and raising funding to meet the continent's rising energy demands, is recognized as a crucial platform for strengthening U.S.-Africa energy cooperation.
