Eng Kamau: My mother never gave birth to a thief

Suspended Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary Engineer Michael Kamau has dismissed claims of abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.

Eng Kamau said that the allegations levelled against him in the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) report tabled in Parliament by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March are unfounded.

Kamau, who was speaking during the burial of his mother in Kieni, Nyeri County, said that he has never been involved in any impropriety or misuse of public funds.

“I want to make it clear that I have never stolen anything and I will never,” said Eng Kamau.

“I want my mother to rest knowing that he has left behind a son who has never stolen anything from anybody. My mother never gave birth to a thief,” added Mr Kamau.

Kamau was accused of wilfully failing to comply with applicable procedures and guidelines relating to the management of public funds and failure to comply with the law relating to procurement and abuse of office.
