Detectives from the serious crime unit have arrested a suspect linked to forgery of a letter from the State Department of Transport in Athi River.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, identified as Richard Kirui Bongei, the Principal Engineer at the Ministry of Housing, was apprehended after the State Department of Transport filed a complaint.

The transport department accused Kirui of forging a letter for "Renewal of Local Agreement Terms" which purported to grant Capt. Martyne Luther Lunani received a three-year extension as the Director of Aircraft Accident Investigation at the Ministry of Roads and Transport.

According to the DCI, the letter dated May 6, 2024, contained the signature of a senior government official and was deemed suspicious and flagged internally by the State Department of Transport.

“Document forensic examination experts established that the letter was indeed a forged document and confiscated it as evidence. Forensic trails subsequently linked the document to Richard Bongei, leading to his arrest,” said the DCI.
