Equity Life Assurance (Kenya) Ltd (ELAK) was honoured on Friday, 6 March 2026, at the 24th edition of the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Awards 2025, held in Nairobi.
The company won the Best Loss Ratio Award and Group Life Insurance Innovation Award under the Group Life Best Practice category. ELAK also finished as first runner-up for Group Life Insurance Company of the Year.
The Best Loss Ratio Award recognizes life insurers that maintain low average loss ratios through effective risk management and sound underwriting. ELAK, a subsidiary of Equity Group Insurance Holdings Limited (EGIHL), reported a strong loss ratio, reflecting operational efficiency and financial stability.
The Group Life Insurance Innovation Award acknowledges insurers that introduce innovative solutions for corporate clients, including the use of technology and data-driven approaches to improve service delivery and product design.
As first runner-up for Group Life Insurance Company of the Year, ELAK was recognized for prudent risk selection, product innovation, adherence to AKI standards, timely data submissions, and portfolio growth. This category evaluates overall performance, corporate insurance growth, customer service, and value delivered to employers and employees through group protection solutions.
Commenting on the awards, ELAK Deputy Managing Director Calvince Onduru said the recognition reflects the company’s commitment to meeting customer needs and improving service delivery.
Insurance Commissioner and IRA CEO Godfrey Kiptum congratulated the winners, emphasizing the importance of insurers offering policies that genuinely protect customers. AKI Chairman Tom Gitogo noted that prioritizing customer needs and embracing digital innovation strengthens collaboration across the industry and contributes to a more robust insurance ecosystem.
