Ex-convict welcomed back home after serving 20-year jail sentence
Residents
of Kianjiru, Kirinyaga County have ecstatically welcomed back one of their
fellow natives after he spent nearly two decades behind bars.
The
ex-convict, Daniel Bundi was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment in 2002 after being
found guilty of rape. He was freed from Embu Prison after successfully
completing his sentence.
According
to multiple reports, residents thronged Bundi’s family home where they
excitedly celebrated and made merry in honour of his release.
Bundi says that he
spent the two decades imparting himself with knowledge that he could use upon
his release and this has seen him morph into a highly skilled and reliable
tailor. While recollecting his long time behind bars, Bundi urged youth to
steer clear of criminal activities that can land them in prison, citing that life in correctional facilities is difficult and not for the faint-hearted.
According to Bundi’s
father, the celebrations will continue at length with his family in no rush to conclude the festivities.
On his part, area Chief
Julius Munene and Embu Prison OIC John Ndiema urged area residents to welcome
back Bundi into the society with open arms and not to stigmatise him since he
was a reformed offender.
