EX-CS Sicily Kariuki's memoir tells failed impeachment, Koffi Olomide deportation

Former Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs CS Sicily Kariuki during an interview on Citizen TV on August 2, 2023.

Former Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has called on young and upcoming leaders to brave themselves for a tough journey in leadership, especially in the political arena.

According to Kariuki, it takes a hard step to remain afloat in leadership positions and still succeed.

She spoke on Sunday at St. Peter ACK Church Ol-Kalou during a dedication service for her recently published Memoir “Breaking The Illusions.”

In the memoir, the former CS sheds light on Kenya's turbulent political landscape during her time in office.

Furthermore, she discusses her role in stoping a performance by Congolese artist Koffi Olomide in 2016 due to a dispute within his group. She also recounts how, despite facing two unsuccessful impeachment attempts, some Members of Parliament later approached her to apologise for their misguided accusations.

Throughout her memoir, Kariuki blends informative insights and captivating anecdotes, giving readers a captivating glimpse into the inner workings of Kenyan politics and her personal experiences navigating its complexities.

While speaking to the press shortly after the event, Kariuki noted that anyone seeking leadership positions must acquit themselves with the intrigues and underhand dealings in “bigger” offices and remain focused on getting into them if one is to remain relevant.

She encouraged young women to rise up and take up such leadership positions and challenged them to value education as more opportunities have opened up for women in technical and political spaces.
