A rift in the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in Migori County continued to widen on Sunday over leadership wrangles, with a section of the party leaders accusing former governor Okoth Obado of dividing the party in Migori.

Led by the county UDA party coordinator Fred Siengo, the aggrieved leaders claimed Obado, who is the Nyanza region UDA party manager, is side-lining other leaders while conducting what he claims to be party affairs.

Siengo said the recent meeting held at Obado’s home in Rapogi, Uriri sub-county, was held without informing other key party leaders in Migori county.

Siengo added that they are not going to allow individuals to hijack the party, asserting that the party has structures and leadership that must be involved before any party meeting is called.

He further claimed that some people who defected to the UDA after the 2022 general election are trying to take control of the party, sidelining the pioneers.

Siengo said they are not going to encourage instances where individuals just put on UDA party attire and call for meetings without the authority of the party leadership.

His remarks were echoed by Bevin Bhoke, who said they want unity in the party in Migori county. Bhoke said there are known county UDA party leaders who are supposed to call for meetings and give other necessary directives.

She added that individuals who decamped to UDA after the 2022 election must also go slow and wait for instructions from the old members.

During the said meeting held a week ago, Obado claimed there are UDA members who are not pulling in the same direction as other party members.

He added that he is the regional manager and therefore other party leaders in the region must work under him.
