Former judge Joseph Mutava and three other suspects have been granted cash bail of Ksh.200,000 each pending investigations over alleged bribery claims.

Mutava, who was arrested on Monday following a coordinated operation by detectives, will not be arraigned in court on Tuesday as investigators continue gathering evidence in the matter.

Detectives say the arrest followed a complaint that the former judge had allegedly solicited a bribe of Ksh.10.4 million to influence the outcome of a commercial dispute pending before the High Court.

Also arrested during the operation were Advocate Kimani Wachira, auctioneer Dr. Kennedy Ngambau Mulwa, and Tom Awili, who are believed to be linked to the alleged scheme.

Following their arrest, the suspects were taken in for questioning as detectives recorded statements and reviewed materials connected to the allegations.

Detectives are still conducting inquiries into the matter, after which the investigation file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for review and possible charges.
