Ex-Pangani cop charged with murder in Homa Bay

A former police officer in Homa Bay was on Thursday arraigned and charged with the murder of a 37-year-old man.

Robert Otieno, who was attached to Pangani Police Station, was charged with killing George Odhiambo at Wiga Village, Kalanya Kanyango Location within Homa Bay Town.

Appearing before High Court Judge Joseph Karanja the suspect denied committing the offence and requested to be released on bail pending hearing of the case.

However, the court declined his request after the prosecution argued that he is a dangerous man and could be harmed or killed by villagers who are baying for his blood.

The offence is said to have been committed on November 20, 2018.

The prosecutor Valary Ongeti told the court that the suspect was armed with a pistol and a knife on that fateful day.

“The officer stabbed the deceased on the neck with the knife he had in his pocket killing him on the spot,” said the prosecutor.

The court ordered that the suspect be remanded at Homa Bay GK prison until January 21 next year when the court will decide on his bond.
