A poster doing rounds on social media platforms showing a quote purportedly from Bomet Woman representative Linet Chepkorir is fake.

The poster that has been widely circulated online was not generated by Citizen Digital.

The poster claimed that the Bomet legislator had issued a comment on an alleged plan by the government to print money.

“Kenya Kwanza government will print money next week to pay public servants and loans. This will lower the cost of living,” the quoted text reads.

A closer look at the image circulating in the social space shows the initials ‘TV’ on the fake Citizen Digital logo.

Besides this, the font used is not the standard one used in social media posts by Citizen Digital.

Even as the origin of the post remains unsubstantiated, stylish fonts are not used in posts by this website or its affiliate social media pages.

The fake quote was also generated on Facebook through a fake post generator website that would otherwise appear true to unsuspecting social media users.

This comes as President William Ruto affirmed that the government will not opt for excessive borrowing to cater for recurring expenditures including salaries, stating that his administration will fully bank on taxes.

"All I assure the country is that we are not going to borrow for recurrent expenditure including salaries. That is the position of the government of Kenya. We will not do that," he said.

The president was speaking during the release of the report on the evaluation of the performance of ministries, State corporations and tertiary institutions for the 2021/2022 financial year.
