A Kenyan family has until May 15 to raise approximately Ksh.150 million to save their son from execution in Saudi Arabia, and as the clock ticks, only Ksh.7 million has been raised through crowdfunding in Kenya and Saudi Arabia.

The ordeal began with an unfortunate altercation in 2011 between 50-year-old Kenyan Bertrand Munyakho, then a warehouse manager in Saudi Arabia, and Abdul Halim, a Yemeni national.

Tragically, the scuffle resulted in Halim's death, leading to Munyakho's imprisonment.

Initially charged with manslaughter, Munyakho's legal battle took a turn for the worse when the victim's family successfully appealed, escalating the charges to murder.

The Yemeni family demanded Ksh. 400 million in "blood money," which was later reduced to Ksh. 150 million after negotiations with Munyakho's family.

Munyakho's family has been relentless in their efforts to secure his release, exploring a variety of options, including mediation with the victims' family.

According to Munyakho's sister, Emmy Abukho, hope remains strong as they organise fundraisers and explore all options to meet the staggering financial demand.

The family has set up two payment options: direct transfers to Munyakho's mother, Dorothy Musopole, via Mpesa at 0702-878-717, or through the designated Paybill number: 8056675, under the account name "Lets Bring Back Stevo."

Some of the other options the family is considering include lobbying for a deadline extension, further negotiations with the family, and reaching out to the widow's family to accept what the family will raise by May 15.
