A Family of two of the five victims who died during the Saturday night accident at Amabuko area in Nyamira County have called on road users to adhere to traffic rules, to avert loss of life on the road.

According to a police report filed at the Keroka police station, the 14-seater passenger vehicle that collided head-on with an oncoming trailer on Saturday evening was speeding.

A secondary school student and a one-year-old are among the casualties of the accident.

At the Keroka police station on Sunday, the family of Alice Misiani gathered as they struggle to come to terms with the death of their kin.

Alice is among the casualties of the Saturday night crash that claimed five lives. She died on the spot alongside her one-year-old son.

When the family was unable to reach Alice on phone, they made their way to the accident scene in Amabuko where they encountered the harsh reality of what befell their kin.

“When I was at the scene asking about my niece, a police officer told me to check at the mortuary. When I arrived there I found them dead,” says Daniel Abere, Alice’s uncle.

Her husband says Alice left home to visit her sister in-law, only to find her and their son dead.

According to a police report, the 14 seater vehicle was overtaking a motorcycle and rammed head on into an oncoming trailer at Amabuko area along the Kisii Keroka road.

“As a result of the accident 5 people died on the spot, others were rushed to different hospitals including Keroka sub county hospital, Ichini mission hospital and Kisii teaching and referral hospital,” says Fred Odada, deputy base commander, Keroka.
