Fatter pay for 7,000 teachers as TSC promotes them

Several thousand teachers are set for fatter pay after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced Thursday, September 15 that it has finalized arrangements to promote them to different job groups.

A total of 7,402 teachers will be promoted with 6,104 primary school tutors serving in P1 Job Group G set for elevation to Job Group J.

In a statement to newsrooms, TSC said the primary school tutors were considered for promotions after completing the Teachers Profiency Course, a programme conducted annually.

The teachers’ body said 1,298 teachers in secondary and post-secondary institutions have been promoted to senior positions of Job Groups P, Q and R following successful interviews.

Among the post primary school tutors set for elevation are principals in national, extra county, county and sub-county schools.

Other teachers set for promotion in the above category include principals and lecturers at Technical and Vocational Training (TIVET), diploma colleges, teachers training colleges, Kenya Institute of Special Education, Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology in Eastern Africa and technical training institutes.

Last month, TSC Chief Executive Officer revealed plans to promote about 15,000 primary school teachers saying Ksh 2.2 billion had been allocated for the exercise.

TSC head of communication, Kihumba Kamotho, said the tutor’s employer would continue to improve the terms of service for all teachers.
