The two love birds are in the advanced stages of their relationship after Wamumbi proposed to Betty over the weekend. A request that Betty accepted and flaunted on social media.
The proposal was witnessed by among others Governors Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), and Nominated Senator Veronicah Maina.
Betty took to social media to showcase her new ring, thanking everyone who showed up for the occasion and particularly her husband-to-be for making it happen.
“One day at a time sweet Jesus. He makes all things beautiful in his own time. Thanks my sisters for organising this wonderful surprise. My dear Eric, you rock!” Betty said.
On his part, Eric shared several moments from the event and captioned them, “And out of love, she said yes!”
After the proposal, Wamumbi is set to visit Betty’s home this coming Saturday where he will officially meet her parents and the clan to table an official proposal to marry her.
The Mathira legislator has intimated to Citizen Digital that he has been courting Betty for two years, having met during the campaign trail as both sought to be elected to parliament.
Wamumbi served as MCA for Konyo Ward in Mathira, Nyeri County and was on course to defend his seat when President William Ruto picked Rigathi Gachagua to be his running mate.
Wamumbi, who had earned the admiration of Ruto and Gachagua by being the only MCA in Nyeri County to oppose the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), was an easy pick for Mathira MP seat when Gachagua dropped out.
Ruto and Gachagua indeed endorsed him in one of their campaign trails in Nyeri.
On her path, Betty previously served as a director at Athi Water Company. She entered politics through the Jubilee party but quickly changed course and joined UDA, having read the mood on the ground.
She would go on to bag the seat, joining Wamumbi in Parliament. This must have further cemented their love having started it off in the campaign trail.
The two are set to make history as the first serving MPs to marry in Kenya’s parliament.
Both legislators had been married before, where Wamumbi’s spouse died and Betty separated from her then partner.
