Five parties endorse President Uhuru Kenyattas re-election

President Uhuru Kenyatta has been endorsed as the presidential candidate by his Jubilee Party and four other affiliate parties.

Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) at the Bomas of Kenya in Nairobi on Saturday, May 6 endorsed President Kenyatta to run for a second term.

Upon being endorsed by the party, President Kenyatta – who was presented with the nomination certificate by the party Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, proceeded to nominate his deputy, William Ruto, as his running mate in the August 8, 2017 General Election.

President Kenyatta will now face off with the opposition presidential candidate, Raila Odinga, who was endorsed by his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Friday, May 5 at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi.

The President was also endorsed by four other parties including Maendeleo Chap Chap, Narc-Kenya, KANU and Economic Freedom Party.

Mendeleo Chap Chap party leader and Machakos Governor, Dr Alfred Mutua, said Kenyans are proud of what the Jubilee administration has achieved and hence the decision by his party to back President Kenyatta’s re-election.

Narc-Kenya’s Martha Karua, speaking during the party’s NDC at the PCEA St Andrews Church in Nairobi, said the party had made a conscious decision as a people who have been in both teams (Jubilee and Opposition).

The independent party – KANU’s National Delegates Conference unanimously adopted a proposal by party chairman, Mr Gideon Moi, to support the President’s re-election.

“It is important for us that you leave behind a good legacy of changing lives and we will stand with you,” Mr Moi told President Kenyatta.

At all the conventions, the President urged supporters to preach peace and unity.

“Let us be people who preach peace even as we propagate our policies,” urged President Kenyatta.
