Five students of St. Mary's School, Yala, in
Siaya County were on Tuesday taken into police custody for interrogation on allegations of plotting to torch the school.
Siaya County Director of Education Nelson
Sifuna said the five were behaving in a manner likely to suggest they were upto
something sinister, forcing the school administration to whisk them to police
for interrogation.
“The school administration noticed some
students behaving in a strange manner, it is like they wanted to follow in the
footsteps of Maranda and immediately surrender them to police for
interrogations,” said Mr. Sifuna.
Gem sub-county Police Commander Charles
Chacha confirmed interrogating the students before releasing them saying they
were unable to establish any motive or items pointing towards an attenpt to
burn the school.
Principals in Siaya County are on high alert
following the incident at Maranda High School in Bondo where two dormitories
were torched on Sunday night.
