Five things Raila said about NASA’s way forward

National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday maintained that he will not take part in the repeat presidential election slated for Thursday, October 26.

The former Prime Minister insisted that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto want to “cling to power at all cost” through a sham election process.

Mr Odinga had said he would make a “major announcement” on the way forward on election eve. Here are five things the opposition leader said:

1. Odinga once again urged his supporters not to participate in an election he termed as sham. “Convince friends, relatives and anyone else not to participate in the elections in any way.”
   Instead, Odinga encouraged them to hold vigil away from the polling stations or stay at home entirely. “We are aware that the blood thirsty regime is planning to use every excuse to massacre our people. Let us deny them that chance,” said Odinga.
2. Transforming the NASA Coalition into a resistance movement. “We shall convene a People’s Assembly for the purpose of charting our way back to constitutionalism and democracy.
3. Demand a fresh election. “Mobilize all progressive forces in the country to ensure that a fresh, free and fair presidential election is organized within 90 days,” he said.
4. The NASA leader told the crowd that had assembled at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, to boycott all goods and services offered by the businesses he claims benefit from “a dictatorship Jubilee government.” He promised to disclose the said companies in the course of the week.
5. Mr. Odinga said the coalition will “Embark on a national campaign of defiance of illegitimate governmental authority and non-cooperation with all its organs.”
