Ford Kenya's Wafula Wakoli has won the Bungoma Senatorial by-election.

Wakoli garnered 66,023 votes to clinch the seat while his closest competitor, UDA's Mwambu Mabonga, managed to get 45,907 votes.

Azimio la Umoja's Wafula Wamunyinyi came in third with 20,519 votes.

The Bungoma Senate seat became vacant in September 2022 after Senator Moses Wetangula stepped down to vie for the National Assembly Speaker position, a docket he managed to clinch.

The contest attracted a total of 11 candidates including the aforementioned three.

Others were Elias Barasa of People's Empowerment Party, Fredrick Busolo (Vibrant Democracy Party), Aaron Wafula (Republican Liberty Party), Geoffrey Barasa (National Ordinary People Empowerment Union) and Robert Sifuna (Roots Party of Kenya).

Enock Opara, Julius Masinde and Radon Munoko similarly vied for the position as independent candidates.
