Foreign Envoys want Graft Suspects Prosecuted

Speaking during an accountability forum that was attended by diplomats from across the continent, Accountability Kenya Chairman Ababu Namwamba now says the organization is contemplating on generating a bill in the National Assembly to change the law in order to give the anti graft body teeth.

Foreign envoys attending the round table meeting organized by Accountability Kenya said although their support for the war against graft is steadfast in Kenya, failure to implement reports or outcomes of investigations of corrupt dealings is a major setback in the fight.

The envoys, however, commended President Kenyatta for setting the pace on the anti corruption campaign but said there is much more to be done if the war against corruption is to be won.

The call comes with only four days remaining before the deadline given by President Kenyatta to the EACC to probe persons mentioned in the corruption dossier.

The commission’s CEO Halaqe Waqo, who was in attendance, expressed confidence that the commission would conclude the investigations on the cases by next week.

Waqo said the exit of EACC commissioners has not affected the progress of investigations on the 175 individuals named in the corruption dossier which forced senior state officers including cabinet secretaries to step aside and pave way for investigations.

Regarding the Anglo Leasing and Chickengate scandals, Waqo said investigations on the cases are nearing conclusion.
