Form 3 girl kills 6-month-old baby, commits suicide in Baringo

A Form Three student at Kapkiamo Secondary School in Baringo County on Wednesday committed suicide after killing her 6-month-old baby.

Lucy Chelimo reportedly killed the baby boy after her mother declined to take care of the infant while she continues with her education.

According to neighbours, the baby was conspicuously missing on Monday and, upon inquiry, Lucy claimed to have taken him to his father.

The response however raised eye brows, prompting the area chief to visit her in school for further questioning on the baby’s whereabouts.

The 16-year-old girl however took her own life at 5am by hanging herself on a tree outside their compound.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, neighbours who thronged the compound blamed the girl’s mother for refusing to take care of the baby to allow her focus on her studies.

Police later arrived on scene and exhumed the body of the baby which was buried in a shallow grave a few meters away from the compound before bringing down the girl’s body and transferring it to the Kabarnet mortuary.
