Former Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has been elected Senate Speaker replacing Ekwee Ethuro.

In a race also pitting him against former Speaker Ethuro, Farah Maalim and Paul Ribathi, Lusaka clinched the seat in the second round of voting having garnered 42 votes against Maalim’s 25. Ethuro and Rigathi only managed two and one vote respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Lusaka promised to enact more compliant bills that will guard devolution noting that the Senate will strive to work with the national government to ensure development in the country.

“I promise to serve you diligently in the next five years. I want to congratulate my worthy opponents. I also wish our sister house, National Assembly, all the best,” said Lusaka

Lusaka has further called upon senators to adopt a bipartisan approach to ensure quality services.
