Former Riruta Member of County Assembly (MCA) Samuel Ndungu
Njoroge alongside two other people has been convicted in the murder of his ex-wife Lucy
Njambi Nyagiko.
The MCA and his two co-accused namely Joyce Njambi Mungai and Wilson Mwangi Munyua were convicted by Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Joel Ngugi on Friday.
According to a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the judge who was granted authority by Chief Justice Martha Koome to conclude the matter said the court had been satisfied with the evidence adduced by 38 prosecution witnesses.
The judge cited the MCA's history of aggression and assault cases which led to his conclusion that marital discord drove him to orchestrate the crime.
"In his ruling, the Judge said the compelling evidence provided by the prosecution highlighted the excessively jealous nature of the first accused, who had a history of assaulting the deceased and displaying aggression towards perceived romantic rivals," stated the DPP.
As for the second and third accused, Justice Ngugi said their involvement which placed them at the crime scene solidified the case.
Joyce is said to have purchased the sulphuric acid used in the attack while Munyua's presence at the time of the crime was established through mobile phone data records.
The ex-MCA was charged in 2018 for the incident which occurred on the night of January 24, the same year.
Njambi died on January 26, 2018, at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she was
receiving treatment after allegedly being raped and doused with acid
by people who kidnapped her from her house at Thindigua along Kiambu road on
January 24.
She was buried later at her parent's home in Karembu village in Gatundu South constituency.
