Four men were on Wednesday charged with murder following the
death a 24-year-old businessman at Kapseret in Uasin Gishu County.
The four; Dennis Kiptoo Rono, Elvis Kiptanui, Abiud Barkutwa
and Cornelius Kiplimo Keter, were accused of killing Samwel Mugiro on April 27,
2025.
The accused were slapped with the murder charge after a mental
assessment examination conducted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital confirmed
them to be of sound mind.
The court heard that the deceased was abducted before his body
was found by members of the public in the flooded River Sosiani.
The suspects were later arrested in their hide-outs at
Kipkaren estate by officers from Langas Police Station.
According to detectives, they were allegedly seen assaulting
the deceased before he disappeared and his body eventually retrieved from the
river.
Their application to be freed was denied after the court ruled
that they were flight risks, further noting that key witness statements in the
case have not been recorded.
The court directed that the suspects be remanded at the Eldoret
GK Prison pending their arraignment for pre-trial hearing on June 16, 2025.
