Fresh cholera outbreak hits Migori

At least twelve people have been hospitalised in Migori County following fresh cholera outbreak in the area.

The fresh cases pose a challenge for the county which has just come from another cholera challenge.

Migori County Director of Health Dr. Joel Gondi said there is fear that the county is experiencing another outbreak.

Other than the reported cases in Masara and Mikei villages in Suna West and Nyatike, there has been reports of another outbreak in Masara Secondary School where eight students were last week diagnosed with cholera.

Dr. Gondi said other cases have been reported at Radienya Secondary School and Kowino Primary in Masara village where students are said to use contaminated water from River Misiri.

He called on leaders from the area to join hands and help address the water shortages in the area and especially in schools as well as address issues of sanitation.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health Migori County has banned hawking of food to help contain the disease.

According to Dr. Gondi, the ban is aimed at minimising the spread of cholera in the county.
