Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has given a subtle response to Former President Uhuru Kenyatta after he criticized President William Ruto over his governance.

During a joint National Executive Retreat and Parliamentary group consultative meeting in Naivasha on Monday, the DP urged Ruto to ensure that no Kenyan is left behind by looking back at his policies.

" I heard somebody saying that you should not look at the rear mirror. I want to encourage you to keep looking at the rearview mirror because the inventor of the motor vehicle was not mad by putting the rearview mirror," he said referring to Uhuru's remarks on Saturday.

"In your leadership your Excellency you have made it clear that no Kenyan should be left behind. So, you have to continuously continue looking at the rear mirror to ensure all Kenyans are on board and are not left behind."

He urged all members present to focus on helping the president achieve his mandate.

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta had criticised Ruto for focusing on the past instead of finding solutions to the problems faced by Kenyans.

He made these remarks while speaking at the funeral of former Kipipiri Member of Parliament (MP) Amos Kimunya's wife on Saturday. Kenyatta urged leaders to focus on the future and work towards finding solutions to the challenges that Kenyans are facing.

"If you are a leader, one who is given the steering wheel, if you are a worthy leader who is at the steering wheel you look forward, not every time looking at the rearview mirror to see where you are coming from. You look forward. If you are a person who drives while looking at the rearview mirror, you will drive the car into a ditch,” said Uhuru.

"The country needs leaders who have progressive visions to solve Kenyans' problems."
