According to the Second in Command, certain leaders have been engaging in speculative discussions about future elections.
Gachagua highlighted the need to focus on the current tenure and dismissed 2027 - 2032 debates as useless and unproductive.
“I have been hearing that some of our leaders have lost their way, talking about 2032 general elections. Those people are lost. We are only one year in office, how can we discuss 2032; even 2027 is a premature debate,” he remarked.
Addressing a church service and fundraising event for Mt. Elgon Churches at Kopsiro, in Bungoma County on Sunday, Gachagua distanced himself from future election discussions, emphasizing his dedication to economic recovery.
The DP further emphasized his commitment to aiding President William Ruto in revitalizing the country's economy amid challenging times.
“I do not want anyone to include me in such debates as I am busy helping the President revive the economy. We have no time to engage in useless and unproductive debates about 2032. It’s unnecessary and a misadventure. How do you know that you are going to be alive?” he posed.
Furthermore, Gachagua urged leaders to prioritize the nation's economic transformation rather than engaging in unnecessary debates about the distant future.
“I want to tell the leaders in Kenya Kwanza, let us focus on the economic transformation of this country. That is what is important right now. If there are those who want to engage in those debates, please don’t drag us into that nonsense," he said.
Moreover, Gachagua asserted that the Ruto government is dedicated to addressing challenges inherited from the previous administration.
He cited the neglected state of the agriculture sector upon assuming power.
Gachagua further criticized the former regime for neglecting farmers' concerns, particularly regarding fertilizers, and underscored the importance of focusing on resolving these pressing issues for the benefit of the nation.
"When we came into power, we found a lot of problems. Agriculture was in pretty bad shape because the former regime had refused to help farmers on issues of fertilizers," Gachagua stated.
Additionally, Gachagua revealed that he will hold a meeting with all coffee farmers in 2024, in a bid to reach an understanding with them.
He said that the government is committed to searching for better markets for farmers by inviting world-renowned coffee dealers.
In a different church service in Bomet County, President William Ruto also gave 2027 talks a wide berth, saying his interests are mainly in remodelling the service delivery approach.
"I am not planning on being re-elected I am planning on how we will transform Kenya. That is my mission. Being elected again is by God's plan and the will of Kenyans. My work is not planning on how I will be re-elected my work is changing Kenya," he said.
