Gachagua, Kalonzo opposition demands compensation for Gen Z protest deaths
Opposition leaders are asking President William Ruto to
clarify the mistakes he made that led to his apology to Kenyan youth.
Led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Deputy
President Rigathi Gachagua during a rally in Machakos County on Friday, the
leaders are demanding that families who lost their loved ones receive
compensation.
DAP- K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said: “Hatuwezi kuwa na
msamaha bila kujua kijana wa kwanza Rex (Masai) kutoka Machakos aliuwawa na
nani...”
“The government is yet to compensate those who lost their
loves ones,” Klaonzo added.
Gachagua, on his part, called on the opposition to unite ahead
of the 2027 political contest, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration’s
popularity with citizens has reduced.
“Tushikane mkono sote, kazi yetu ni kumtoa William Ruto,” said
the former DP.
Wamalwa added: “The country is headed in the wrong direction,
kutoka mlima tumeanza hiyo safari we must stay united.”
In Kirinyaga County, People's Liberation Party (PLP) leader
Martha Karua began her quest for presidency in her backyard, urging the
opposition to rally behind her candidature.
Karua lashed out at the Kenya Kwanza administration over what
she termed as rampant corruption and disregard of the law.
The opposition says it's laying the ground work to mount a vigorous
campaign against President Ruto's regime in two years’ time, and adding that it
would ensure he serves for a single term.
