Garbage collectors clash with county gov’t over pay

Migori County garbage collectors have threatened to down their tools, saying the county government has failed to pay them their dues for the past five months.

The workers said they have continued to offer their services despite going without food at their homes.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Migori County Executive committee members in charge of Environment and Disaster Management Elijah Odhiambo said the cleaners are going to receive their salaries in due course, adding that the matter is being handled by the department of finance.

Meanwhile traders operating in Migori, Awendo and Masara complained over poor sanitation in the markets, urging the county government to put in place better garbage collection plans.

Traders operating in Masara town in Suna West Sub County and Kehancha town in Kuria West Sub County have not been remitting taxes to the county government because of poor sanitation in the towns.
