Traders in Garissa County are seeking justice after allegedly being beaten up by security officers in the ongoing operation to fight Al Shabaab militants along the LAPSSET corridor after attack targeting construction workers and engineers.

Last week, a group of three vendors who had collected containers of milk from Diiso village in Fafi sub county were allegedly stopped by police officers when coming back and were accused of supplying food and water to the militants.

The vendors claim they were whipped for almost four hours before they were released unconditionally where they sustained serious injuries on their backs and knees.

They recorded their statements at Garissa police station but no action has been taken to date.

Area governor Nathif Jama has also hit out a section of security agents whom he accused of harassing residents in the wake of renewed terror in Fafi and Dadaab sub counties terming the acts counterproductive in intelligence gathering.

Regional Commissioner John Otieno said his office has received such complaints from the members of the public and that investigations have commenced.
