High School Girl Commits Suicide over Mobile Phone

A form three student at Marindi High school in Nyamira County has died after throwing herself into a pit latrine because her phone was confiscated by a teacher.

Judy Maasi was found last night by the school’s boarding master using a mobile phone, which was later confiscated since it was against school rules.

Maasi, who was reportedly angered by the action, opened a channel used to drain the latrine and then threw herself in.

Nyamira county OCPD Rico Ngare confirmed the incident saying police are at the school to carry out further investigations.

The police boss also intimated that the process of retrieving her body is underway.
