Give food donations and not cash to hunger striken Kenyans – gov’t told

Ahadi Kenya Trust CEO, Stanley Kamau, is now calling on the National Government to consider distributing food donations directly to the hunger-stricken families instead of cash transfers, saying that in most cases the finances do not reach all the intended families.

Mr Kamau, who was speaking in Modogashe, Garissa County, after helping a hunger stricken family whose mother had just delivered triplets, said that the government should utilize the local administration and other groupings in the society who in most cases understand their respective areas including all the persons who need food donations.

“The government needs to come up with a program where those affected by hunger are reached and assisted directly without going through any other middlemen,” said the CEO.

However, he challenged other able Kenyans and well wishers to come on board and assist the hunger stricken families through contribution of either money or food, in a bid to help the government combat he hunger menace.

He also called upon both the national and county governments to come up with massive projects that will ensure food security in the country including irrigation schemes and modern livestock raring, adding that it is a shame for Kenyans to be dying of hunger in this era.
