Give Muslim workers Friday off to mark Idd-Ul-Adha: Matiang’i

Muslims have been allowed to skip work on Friday at the discretion of their employers to celebrate Idd-Ul-Adha, acting Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i announced through a statement to the press.

The holiday, also called the “Great Sacrifice” is celebrated worldwide by Muslims in honour of the Abraham for his willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God’s command.

However, Dr Matiang’i said it would be a normal work day for non-muslims but indicated a Bill would be tabled in Parliament for the day to designated a national holiday.

“Adherents of Islam religion will celebrate the day  and therefore employers should allow them to be away from work. For non-Muslims this will be a normal working day,” read the statement.
