Give Raila Odinga a chance, Junet tells Machakos residents

Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has called on Machakos residents to support ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2017 General Election.

Speaking in Machakos on Sunday, Junet said that Raila had suffered a lot for the country and fought relentlessly for democracy and therefore deserves a chance at the presidency.

“As ODM we are very happy with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and his leadership style. However, our request is that we give Raila one chance after which we will support Kalonzo,” he said.

“Raila has suffered a lot for this country including being detained for nine years, and having his results rigged twice. It will therefore be undeserving to not give him a chance to lead the country even just once.”

Junet further noted that any loophole that would have been used to rig the next elections have been sealed, saying Kenyans should be ready for a free and fair election.

“I am hopeful that there will be no cases of rigging in the20176 elections because we have sealed al loopholes. The voting process will be electronic and results announced at the polling station as opposed to the Tallying Centre like was the case in the 2013 election,” said Junet.

He further noted that the next election would be a two-horse race, saying parties like Maendeleo Chap Chap of Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua have no place in the next elections.

In her address, Mombasa Women representative Mishi Mboko said that under Jubilee, corruption has hit a record high with the national government frustrating devolution.

She tore into Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s development record saying what he has majored on is public relations gimmicks.

“Jubilee’s PR scheme is similar to what Governor Mutua is doing in Machakos County. If his Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement was a reality, Machakos would be well developed now with state of the art roads and well-functioning health sector,” she said.

Speaking at the same function, Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Machakos counterpart Johnson Muthama called for unity within CORD ahead of the next elections.

Orengo termed Kalonzo as a trusted and celebrated leader owing to his good reputation globally.

“It was right for the UN to award Kalonzo the African Dignitary Man of the Year Awards owing to his good reputation,” he said.

Orengo further said that measures have been put in place including the announcement of results at the polling stations to ensure rigging does not occur in the next elections.

Muthama, in his speech, called on CORD principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula to desist from divisive campaigns and let Kenyans choose who will be the coalition’s flag bearer in the next elections.
