Sarah Cheruiyot, the mother of
President-elect William Ruto has thanked Kenyans for their overwhelming support
that saw her son clinch the presidency.
Speaking at her Kamagut home after the
Supreme Court upheld Ruto’s election, Sarah said her son would not have made it
without prayers.
“I thank God for his protection and what he
did. He has answered our prayers,” Sarah said.
She recalled how the President-elects political
journey began, when elders approached her, requesting to work with Ruto.
In a message to Kenyans, Sarah said not only the family was
instrumental in Ruto’s success, but the nation at large.
“I thank Kenyans because they helped us,
our prayers alone would not have uplifted him. Thank you Kenyans for helping us
in prayers, young or old,” she told KTN news.
The first family acknowledges that prayers
were the corner stone in Ruto’s journey to State House, with Sarah saying she
prayed for her son before he voted on August 9.
To his son William Ruto, Sarah advised; “Work
for Kenyans because they are the ones who voted for you, not family.”
On Monday, the Supreme Court of Kenya upheld the election of William Ruto, dismissing a petition filed by his
opponent Raila Odinga for lacking evidence.
