Government to waive tax for dates imported during Ramadhan

The government has issued a tax waiver for dates imported during the month of Ramadhan.

In a statement signed by Dr. Kamau Thugge, Principal Secretary of the National Treasury, the move is a gesture of goodwill to the Muslim community.

“As a gesture of manifesting goodwill to our Muslim brothers during the month of Ramadhan, an important period in the Muslim calendar, the taxes relating to the dates imported between now and the end of the month of Ramadhan will be paid by the Government,” reads the letter also copied to the Head of Public Service, Dr. Joseph Kinyua.

“This letter constitutes an undertaking to do so.”
