Governor Gladys Wanga mourns Homa Bay accident victims

Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has sent a message of condolences to the families victims who perished in a road accident at Ngengu area along Homa Bay - Kendu Bay road.

The accident occurred after a passenger matatu collided head-on with a fuel tanker on Monday evening.

“This evening, I have received the devastating news of a fatal accident involving a Public Service Vehicle traveling to Kisumu from Homa Bay and a truck that was coming from the opposite direction at Ngegu area,” she said

“I am deeply shocked and saddened at the loss of 9 precious lives and the injuries to more in the unfortunate incident. I send my deepest and heartfelt condolences to those who have lost friends and loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured.” 

Homa Bay Police Commander Samson Ole Kinne confirmed the accident, noting that the deceased died on the spot.

A Class Seven boy from Janeiro Junior Academy in Rangwe Constituency who was travelling back to school is among the eight passengers confirmed dead.

The Homa-Bay County Police Commander said the two injured passengers were rushed to the Homa-Bay County Referral hospital while bodies of the deceased were taken to the morgue within the same facility.

Investigations have since been launched to establish the cause of the accident.
