Meru Governor Kawira
Mwangaza has dismissed widespread reports that she paid her husband Murega
Baichu Ksh. 1.2 million for his performance during her inauguration ceremony.
The reports that went
viral on social media on Saturday indicated that Baichu, who is a musician, was
paid Ksh. 1.2 million by the County Government after entertaining guests on the
August 25 event.
Kawira has now termed
the reports as propaganda peddled by her political rivals, saying that Baichu
was not paid anything for playing his ‘magical guitar’ during her swearing in.
“Clarification on lies
being peddled by our political enemies. My husband Murega Baichu was not
contracted for performance nor was he paid even a single shilling during my
swearing-in Ceremony,” she said.
The Meru Governor further
added that she will appreciate Baichu with her own money.
“But when I receive my
first month salary nitamnunulia zawadi.”
During the swearing in
ceremony of Kawira, Baichu impressed guests with his stellar performance,
singing praises for his wife with guitar tunes.
He expressed
confidence in Kawira, assuring Meru residents that she will serve them well.
“The people of
Meru know that she will deliver and that is why they voted her in against two
strong waves…they have so much confidence in mama and she loves them because she
knows what their problems are,” Baichu said.
