Governor Kingis PAA writes to Registrar of Political Parties seeking to exit Azimio
The Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party led
by Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has written to the Registrar of Political Parties
Anne Nderitu seeking to exit the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party.
In a notice of denunciation to the Registrar,
PAA wants to formally disengage from Azimio La Umoja One Kenya, and withdraw
its signature from the coalition agreement deposited in March this year.
The party claims it has been kept in the dark
over the Raila Odinga-led Azimio’s affairs and was unable to access the
coalition agreement or understand its terms.
The party’s National Executive Council (NEC)
also claims it had not ratified the coalition agreement.
“The PAA NEC in a meeting held on 25th April
2022 resolved that the ratification of the agreement signed on 5th April 2022
be and is hereby declined,” read a section of the letter from the party.
"Despite signing the agreement 20 days
ago, no copies have been supplied…consequently, the intended membership of
PAA party in Azimio coalition party howsoever ceases forthwith.”
It added: "PAA has never been and
declines to be a member of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party."
Sources however revealed to Citizen TV that
PAA was headed to the Kenya Kwanza alliance led by Deputy president William
Ruto, and the deal could be sealed as soon as next week.
The Kenya Kwanza team has been hunting Kingi
for a pact, to boost Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa’s gubernatorial bid in Kilifi, in a
race against former lands Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Gideon Mung’aro,
who will fly the Azimio flag.
Kingi is also being sought by DP Ruto to
shore up his numbers in the presidential race, and eat into one of the regions
seen as Odinga’s strongholds in the 2017 general election; Kilifi County has
582,631 registered voters.
