Governor Waiguru: It would be an honour if DP Ruto chooses me as his running mate
Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru now says she
would be honoured if selected to be Deputy President William Ruto's running
mate ahead of the August polls.
Speaking in Kirinyaga after being endorsed by
a section of the county’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party candidates
for the position, Governor Waiguru exuded confidence that she had all it takes
to be the country’s Deputy President if the Kenya Kwanza coalition clinches
power.
“The choice of a running mate is the sole
duty of the deputy president. There has been a conversation in the country
where they have mentioned my name as one of the front runners for the
position,” Waiguru said.
“It will be a great honour for me if the
deputy president chooses me as his running mate; even being fronted as a
possible candidate, it’s very respectable since there are a lot of many capable
Kenyans.”
She added: “We have spoken with fellow
members of the party, they have encouraged me, and we are hoping that one of us
is selected.”
In the Kenya Kwanza, a number of candidates have
already been whispered as among those in the running to be DP Ruto’s deputy.
Among the names that have so far cropped up
include; ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi,
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kinidiki, as well as Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua.
