Govt asks for goodwill in negotiating tariff cut with independent producers
The request for support comes even as some independent power producers (IPPs) intimate that they would not be party to a deal to cut the tariff costs
On Tuesday for instance, the Lake Turkana Wind Power (LTWP) said it stood against the ongoing power tariff negotiations.
"From the beginning of the reform process in general and the negotiations with PPAs, the government has and continues to act in a transparent manner. We have engaged all IPPs in open discussions, clarifying both our intent and modality," the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.
"We have demonstrated goodwill towards all investors in the sector and expect reciprocity of the same by all investors including LTWP."
The Ministry of Energy begun negotiations with the producers in March and expects to yield a further 15 per cent cut to power cost for Kenyans from the negotiations.
