Gov't deploys security team to contain Transmara-Kuria border clashes

A security team patrols the Transmara-Kuria border amidst inter-community clashes.

A multi-agency security team was on Friday deployed along the volatile Gwetembe-Barrikoi border of Kuria and Transmara South to deal with inter-community clashes in the area.

Speaking to Citizen TV on phone, Transmara South OCPD Charles Opondo confirmed the deployment of the reinforced team to arrest the situation along the busy border.

Opondo also appealed to the residents across the border to report any incidences and the injured to the authorities to allow timely interventions.

Locals want Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki to visit the area to better appreciate the causes of conflict.

Keya Cheruiyot, a Transmara clan elder,  said: “Mimi nalia watu, hapa nimemaliziwa watu hapa, kitu mimi nashindwa, Angata Barrikoi hii mpaka yetu inaonekana kabisa.”

Kipkemoi Daniel, a resident of Angata in Transmara, noted: “Tulingojea kaunti komishna yeye hakufika ata hapa, tunaomba Kindiki afike hapa na asipofika tutakuwa na shida zaidi, tunataka tupewe NPR ndio usalama uimarishwe hatujapewa.”
