Gov’t forms livestock board to manage and market animals

Garissa Governor Nathif Jama has welcomed the move by the National Government to form a livestock board to manage and market livestock in the country.

Speaking in Garissa during the launching of The Common Programme Framework for Ending Drought Emergencies, Governor Jama said the move will help improve the lives of pastoralists in the semi-arid areas of Kenya.

“By this establishment, pastoralists in the semi-arid counties will be uplifted out of poverty and end drought emergencies,” he said.

He also urged the government to not only concentrate on strengthening its drought early warning and response system but also focus on eliminating the conditions that lead to poverty.

He further called on the stakeholders to collaborate and come up with strategies to eliminate drought.

The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Garissa County Coordinator Dr. Mohammed Keynan urged politicians to support the move which aims at alleviating poverty among the pastoralists.
